The Pakistan Railways (PR) and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) have decided to set up a four-member committee to enhance bilateral cooperation and promotion of trade. Decision to this effect was taken on the occasion of LCCI delegation's visit to the Pakistan Railways Headquarters here on Friday. It was a continuity of an agreement reached between both the organizations during the visit of Khawaja Saad Rafique to the LCCI, said a spokesman of the Railways.

The LCCI delegation was welcomed by Additional General Manager Railways Abdul Hameed Razi and both sides discussed matters of mutual interest. The LCCI delegates observed that railways could play a pivotal role in enhancing regional trade, especially with Iran and Afghanistan. The delegation was briefed about phased-wise improvement of track from Karachi to Peshawar under the CPEC. Rolling Stock Specialist Rana Abrar Anwar said that upgradation of the track would result in increased speed of the passenger trains to 160 kilometers per hour and freight trains to 120 kilometers per hour. The project would be completed in three years at a cost of Rs 870 billion.
